More Love
The world is a crazy place, people. It needs a little more love. Well, it probably needs a lot more love, but let's start with baby steps.
The shooting that happened in Orlando, FL on June 12, really touched a place in my heart. It's so controversial on so many levels and I'm not going to touch on any of that right now. I'm sure you have a Facebook friend or two that would love to take my place on sharing their thoughts about it.
What I would like to say is that above all the "issues" that people seem to think it's about, the truth is, it's a human issue. Human beings, with lungs and hearts and feelings were taken on that night and it doesn't seem fair. As a fellow human being, that REALLY bothered me. I'm assuming that if you are reading this post, you're also a human and therefore, should be bothered on some level about what took place.
I am not an expert in a lot of things. I try to stay far far away from touchy subjects surrounding politics and current event issues. But like I said, this incident was a little too much for me to just let it go by without expressing a little bit of what it made me feel.
So, an idea arrived in the creative depths of my brain. Then, I sat on it. For 10 days. I was too nervous to create this piece because in my mind that was putting me on one side of the fence that I have been so delicately balancing on. A voice inside me kept urging me to create this and I kept pushing it down until Tuesday when I saw a post from AIGA Orlando. They are having a poster show and auction called Love By Design. I stayed up late creating this poster that I should have printed right away after the idea came to me. Shipping turned out to be a super dooper fortune so, I decided not to ship them down there for the show. If you're in the area of Orlando this weekend, you should definitely go to the show and buy some sweet art posters for a good cause. These posters are available to purchase from my website and Etsy store. If you purchase a poster I will donate a portion to the OneOrlando Fund just as if they were in the show this weekend.
I know this poster doesn't solve any problems per say, but hopefully it can serve as a daily reminder in your home to be more kind to your fellow humans. We're all just trying to have a good day.
